Le Piscine di Venere

The corner of the coast called "Le Piscine di Venere" is one of the most beautiful and evocative of the Costa di Baunei, in the Gulf of Orosei. They can be reached in about 25 minutes by dinghy, starting from the port of Cala Gonone between the beach of Cala Biriola and the Grotte del Fico.
The color of the water is a bright turquoise due to the presence of numerous freshwater resurgences coming from the cliff and from the bottom of the sea.
Depending on the year, storm surges create a small strip of sand and limestone grit. However, it is better not to stop in the bay close to the 200-metre high wall; it is not uncommon to spot goats or animals that could drop stones from above during their passage.
The name of the ridge in Baunese is "Su Piggiu 'e Laori". The name Piscine di Venere was given years ago by a tourist operator from Cala Gonone, due to the beauty of this body of water and the iridescent color of the walls that surround it.
Our advice is, if you rent a dinghy, to stop at anchor at a safe distance and in order to leave the body of water free.
Enjoy a refreshing swim.
Sip a good glass of fresh Vermentino enjoying the spectacle that nature has given us.
In high season we do not recommend a visit between 11:30 and 13:00 as it is overcrowded by too many boats.
