HOLIDAY TIPS FOR CALA GONONE

CONSIGLI VACANZA CALA GONONE

As the "hot" months approach in terms of visitor numbers, Cala Gonone can transform from an untouched paradise with a few thousand people to a holiday destination with over 25,000 visitors. The local authorities have made significant improvements to the services, but there is still more to be done. This section aims to provide you with essential tips to make the most of your high-season vacation in Cala Gonone with as little stress as possible!

HOLIDAY TIPS - ESSENTIALS

PORT DESCENT FOR GULF CRUISE

PORT DESCENT FOR GULF CRUISE

Since summer 2019, to ease traffic congestion in the center of Cala Gonone, a shuttle service has been implemented at a cost of 1 euro per person (round trip), departing every 15 minutes from Skrittiorè and arriving at the port. Especially for those who come to Cala Gonone for a day trip to the Gulf of Orosei, it is advisable to park your car at Skrittiore (accessible by taking the third exit at the entrance roundabout). Upon returning from the excursion, you can easily reach your car by taking the shuttle from the port using the same method.

WASTE DISPOSAL

WASTE DISPOSAL

In Cala Gonone and Dorgali, waste collection has been carried out through door-to-door service for years, following a disposal schedule. Trash bins are available in the town center but should not be used to dispose of numerous bags of waste resulting from a day at the beach with packed lunches. For those returning from cruises in the Gulf of Orosei, a mobile collection center is available in the port during the afternoon hours. From June to the end of September, an ecological island where waste can be properly sorted is located in Via Codule e Gustui (Get directions) .

SHOWERS AND TOILETS

SHOWERS AND TOILETS

Public bathrooms and showers are available at the port, mainly for those who do not stay in Cala Gonone and return from mini-cruises in the Gulf. The service is not free but requires a small fee for cleaning the facilities and showers. Showers are also available for free use on the Palmasera beach (just after Palmasera Park).

REACHING CALA FUILI

REACHING CALA FUILI

Viale Bue Marino coastal road provides access to the beaches of S'Abba Meica, Ziu Martine, and Cala Fuili. SP26bis is a dead-end road that, especially from July to August, gets congested due to heavy traffic, including parked cars on both sides of the road. To avoid frustration when reaching Cala Fuili, it is advised to avoid approaching the promontory overlooking the beach at all costs. When you see the first parked cars, pull over and walk the last 300 meters.

BEACH ATTIRE Cala gonone e Dorgali

BEACH ATTIRE

The beaches of Cala Gonone differ from each other in terms of their sandy composition. While the northern part mainly consists of fine sand, the southern beaches have a mix of limestone gravel, sand, and pebbles. For those with sensitive feet, it is advisable to wear rock shoes.

CHILDREN IN TOW

CHILDREN IN TOW

For families with children, there are several public areas between Dorgali and Cala Gonone equipped with playgrounds, facilities, and panoramic benches. The most well-equipped park, where you can enjoy peace and quiet, is located at the end of Viale Palmasera, where traffic is closed. The pine forest near Piazza di Chiesa is another spacious area where children can play undisturbed. In Dorgali, there is a small children's playground in the Viale Kennedy area below the middle schools, near the Hotel Sadde, and an adventure park in the pine forest of the eastern bypass.

PARKING

PARKING

Parking can be a significant source of stress in August. Throughout the area from the post office to the port and the end of Lungomare Palmasera, parking spaces are subject to charges and marked with blue stripes. Parking tickets can be obtained from machines located a few meters away from the parking areas or through the "Easy Park" app. The shuttle service, which departs every 15 minutes from Skrittiorè, is recommended for those embarking on a cruise to the beaches of the Gulf of Orosei. Parking is chargeable every day, including holidays, from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm.
