Cala Gonone Excursions

Boat Itineraries
How to spend a perfect day in the Gulf of Orosei
There are 3 possibilities to visit by boat the southern beaches of the Gulf of Orosei, starting from Cala Gonone: departing with the small ferries, renting a boat in autonomy or taking a rubber dinghy with a skipper. Each choice has pro and cons that we'll try to synthesize in this article.
Boat rental
- Cheap for groups of friends who can divide the amount.
- Possibility to reach all the beaches autonomously, to choose the stops and the baths
- Definitely fun, even at the first experience
- Responsibility of the driving boat
- Expensive for single families with children
- The driver has to manage landings and anchorage. His fatigue is proportional to the stops number
Charter
- Ideal for a complete overview of the Gulf at the first excursion.
- No responsabilities, full relaxation and fun
- Max 12 people groups, affordable for couples.
- The excursion quality depends on the skipper
- Sometimes there are patchy groups, difficult to agree
- Some boat could be small for 12 people

Cala Gonone excursions - Ferries
The ferries are a long-standing reality in the Gulf of Orosei. With the mini-cruise you'll can discover all the beaches of the Gulf and visit the Bue Marino Caves.
The boats usually do 3 stops (2 beaches + Bue Marino caves or 3 beaches). It's ideal for people who want to travel comfortably and stay on the shaded deck. Best choice for families with babies.
The staff will be happy to assist you and to describe the area. Photographers will benefit from the sailing stability, unlike the rubber raft. Many ferries are equipped with a small shop with fresh drinks.

Cala Gonone excursions - Rubber raft hired autonomously
This solution gives you the freedom to choose the beach stops and to stay at anchor in the crystal clear waters of the "Sorgenti" area, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè, the "Venus Pools" or Iscorianna. More info at our guide Boat rental in Cala Gonone
The best advice we can give you is to depart very early in the morning, to enjoy the morning light and the empty beaches. Your rising will be paid back by the beautiful scenery.
Route 1
Sail longshore heading the southern slope of Punta Plumare (the large central and round-shaped mountain visible from the harbour of Cala Gonone).
You will reach the "Piscine di Venere" (located immediately after Cala Biriola), destination of your first bath at anchor. It is the ideal place to snorkel for the plentiful fish presence. Then go to anchor at Goloritzè, where you'll can swim close the famous Arch or in the nearby "Sorgenti" beaches. Spend some time in this area of unique allure. Then turn to Cala Gonone and start the journey back to the beaches of "Ispuligi de Nie", made up of Cala dei Gabbiani and Cala Mariolu; choose one of these for lunch breaks. Usually Cala Gabbiani is the least crowded, especially in the area distant from the docking lanes. In these beaches the shade comes around 3:30pm. Then go to Cala Luna where you can take a coffee or an ice cream at the restaurant-cafè behind the beach. You can stay here 1 hour or more before going back to Cala Gonone. If you have time enjoy a last dive near the small beaches of Ziu Santoru or Oddoana.
Route 2
Sail longshore heading Cala Luna, where you can do the first stop to avoid the crowding of the afternoon (almost 500 people). At 11:00 leave again to Cala Biriola. Half hour of sailing and you'll reach the Piscine di Venere for a bath; this place become crowded at 12:00. Continue towards "Ispuligi de Nie" and take a break at Cala Mariolu, free from crowding until 2:00pm; the northern area is the most suggestive. Leave again towards Cala Goloritzè and the Sorgenti beaches. Take baths from the rubber raft and explore these waters of gorgeous colors in the early afternoon, when the sun slowly goes down behind the Aguglia. Now you can come back to the Cala Gonone harbour.

Cala Gonone excursions - Charter with the skipper
The Excursions with a driver can be done by boat or ferry. Thanks to the skipper experience you'll can amply know the coastlines of the Gulf of Orosei and visit the marine caves between Cala Luna and Cala Goloritzè, characterized by tight walls that require a serious navigation experience.
The skipper will deal with anchoring and mooring, so you'll can enjoy the day without worries, in total relaxation.
Unlike the ferry, charter excursions are characterized by a modest people number, allowing a more personal relationship between crew and skipper. He will adapt the route and change the itineraries depending on the beaches crowding, to give you an unforgettable excursion.
