Welcome to Ceramiche Loddo
The first workshop of Ceramica Loddo is due to Paolo Loddo, born in Orani (1903- 1983) and moved to Dorgali in 1930. Born as a wood carver, he devoted himself to ceramics and, in the laboratory of ceramist Ciriaco Pira, learned the first work techniques, but followed just the basics because it change to a very personal way of dealing relief and colors.
Our ceramics are different in Single-fired and Double-fired and the materials used are Red and White Clay, Crystalline and Glazes.- Single-fired:
It is been cooked in the oven at a temperature of over 1000 degrees and is colored with colors NOT SUITABLE for Food use. With this technique you'll find decorative plates with dark base and very bright colors. - Dual-fired Glaze: (on Red Clay)
After the first firing (biscuit) ceramics receiving a bath of glaze (white) and, after a slow drying, the subject is drawn slicing with an awl, is painted and brought back in the oven at about 900 degrees. - Dual-fired:
Dual-fired Crystalline "AB": (on White Clay) Contrary to Red clay, artwork is etched when the White Clay is still fresh, then left to dry and fired at about 1000 Degrees. It is then colored and surrounded by crystalline and re-fired in the oven at 1000 degrees.
